The stomach is known as the second brain. Studies have shown that particular illnesses and behavior stem from the stomach and not the brain.
One of the examples is depression, a condition now believed to start in the gut. In technical terms the part of the human body which is called the second brain is the enteric nervous system of our gut because it depends on the same neurons and neurotransmitters which are used for central nervous system.
Scientists call this little brain the enteric nervous system (ENS). And it’s not so little. The ENS is two thin layers of more than 100 million nerve cells lining your gastrointestinal tract from esophagus to rectum.
